Kill Switch
Two people who grew up near each other have spent years in a conflict that ended with one of them in prison.
About
The book is told in two voices, and they disagree about almost everything that has happened between them. One of the narrators has served three years in prison, sent there by the other's testimony, and has used the time to plan what comes next. He is not interested in making the person who testified suffer directly; what he wants is for everything around her to hurt. The other narrator spent those years expecting a reckoning of one particular kind and finds something different coming at her. The novel is about how far each of them is prepared to go and what, if anything, they can recognise in each other after all of it. The family that sent him away is hers: her father told the court that his daughter was a victim, and the answer he has settled on is to strip the three Ashby women of the money and the protection they have left rather than to come for Winter directly.
The two narrators take turns telling the story.
