Keeper of the Dream
Lady Arianna has the Welsh gift of sight, and in a golden bowl she sees a knight with eyes the grey of the English sea who is about to run his sword through her heart.
About
Keeper of the Dream is a historical romance by Penelope Williamson, published in 1992 and set on the border between Wales and England. Its heroine, Lady Arianna, has the Welsh gift of sight.
In a golden bowl she sees a vision of a knight with grey eyes, standing with his sword about to pierce her heart. The foretelling gives her one warning and no instruction, and what it produces in her is not fear but a desire she cannot put down.
The knight is Raine, called the Black Dragon, who rides towards Castle Rhuddlan and the lady inside it. He is the illegitimate son of a Norman nobleman, and his past has left him scarred by denial and mistrust.
His future is a fiefdom he intends to take, and the woman he means to conquer is one he has already been shown in advance. The novel works on the collision between what Arianna has seen and what Raine intends to do. Whichever of the two turns out to be right, the other will have to give up something.
