Jar of Hearts
Angela Wong disappeared when she was sixteen, and nobody suspected that her best friend Georgina Shaw knew anything about it.
About
Jar of Hearts is a crime novel by the Canadian-American writer Jennifer Hillier, published in 2018. It is set in and around Seattle and deals with what happens when a disappearance that everybody has stopped thinking about is reopened by a chance discovery.
Angela Wong was one of the most popular girls in her school when she vanished at the age of sixteen. Her best friend, Georgina Shaw, is now an executive at a pharmaceutical company in Seattle and has never been asked any awkward questions about that time. Kaiser Brody, who was close to both of them in high school, is by now a detective with the city's police department.
The remains of Angela are found in the woods near the house where Georgina grew up, and the case is reopened with the three of them at its centre: the woman who died, the friend who has built a career on not discussing her, and the detective who now knows what he did not know at school. The novel alternates between the present investigation and the events of the year Angela disappeared, and both threads are told from Georgina's point of view.
