I Too Had a Love Story is Ravinder Singh's first novel, an autobiographical story about a young engineer in India who looks for a wife through a matrimonial website and falls in love with a woman he has not yet met.

About

Ravinder Singh's first book, I Too Had a Love Story, appeared in 2008 from Srishti Publishers, and Penguin India reissued it in 2012. It is an autobiographical novel, told in the first person, and it stayed on best-seller lists in India for years after it first came out.

The book opens at a reunion in Kolkata, where Ravin and three friends from their engineering college days are talking about their plans and admitting that none of them has given marriage much thought. One of them, Happy, suggests that Ravin sign up on a matrimonial website, and back at his job as an engineer for Infosys in Bhubaneswar he takes the advice.

On the site he finds Khushi, who lives in Delhi and works for a company in Noida. The two begin to talk on the telephone, become friends, and then discover how much they have in common. After months of conversation they realise that they have fallen in love without ever having met in person, and the novel follows what they do about it and what the months that follow bring.
