Goosebumps - Return of the Mummy
After a frightening adventure the year before, Gabe is uneasy about returning to Egypt, to the ancient pyramids and to the place where he saw the mummies.
About
Goosebumps - Return of the Mummy is a novel by R. L. Stine, published in 1994. It belongs to the original Goosebumps run for middle-grade readers.
The premise is a return. Gabe has been to Egypt before and seen the mummies, and the sequel places him back in the same setting with a specific piece of folklore attached: a chant that is supposed to wake the dead. The adult in the story explains it away, which is the standard position the series gives its parents and guardians. Gabe has seen the mummies before, so the book's fright depends on his knowing what he is looking at rather than on a first encounter.
The book then has to test the explanation, and the noise in the tomb is the first evidence that it may not hold. Gabe is back in Egypt with the memory of the previous visit still fresh, and it is his uncle who dismisses the chant as a hoax, so the adult reassurance is part of the trap rather than a comfort, which is how the series usually handles the grown-ups who explain things away.
