The job Patrick Kenzie is given is a missing four-year-old, taken from her mother's apartment on a night when the woman had been out drinking.
About
Gone, Baby, Gone is a crime novel by the American writer Dennis Lehane, published in 1998. It is the fourth book in his series featuring Patrick Kenzie and Angela Gennaro, a pair of Boston private investigators.
The case they are handed is the disappearance of Amanda McCready, a four-year-old taken from her mother's apartment in Dorchester on a night when the woman had been out drinking. The police search has run down, and the child's aunt hires Kenzie and Gennaro to keep looking.
The search carries them through the parts of Boston that never make the news, among dealers, kidnappers and people willing to buy a child, and every answer they find leads to someone with a reason to want the girl to stay missing. Kenzie and Gennaro are also trying to hold their own relationship together as the case goes on.
It was adapted into a film in 2007.
