Golden Surrender
Prince Olaf of Norway comes to Ireland with a fleet and a plan to build himself a kingdom, and Princess Erin, the daughter of the Irish high king, has every reason to hate him for what his men have done to her country.
About
Golden Surrender is a historical romance by the American writer Heather Graham, published in 1987 and the first of her Viking novels.
Prince Olaf of Norway arrives in Ireland with a fleet, intending to carve out a kingdom there, and the raids that come with his arrival are what Princess Erin holds against him. She is the daughter of the Irish high king, and the alliance that the Norse and the Irish need against the Danes is arranged by marrying her to the man she regards as the author of her country's suffering. The novel follows the two of them from that beginning through a marriage neither of them wanted, and it uses the politics of the period as the thing that keeps forcing them together and apart. Graham wrote a long list of historical romances, and this one is the start of a series about the same Norse family.
The second book in the series takes up the story with the next generation of the same family, and the two novels are set in the same years of fighting.
