Ghost Night
Two young actors are murdered on a remote island film set, and their bodies are arranged in an imitation of a massacre that took place there in the nineteenth century.
About
Ghost Night is a novel by the American writer Heather Graham, published in 2010. It combines a suspense plot with a ghost story and a romance, and it is set on the islands of the Bahamas.
The book opens with what had been intended as the making of a slasher film. Two of the cast are killed, and the arrangement of the bodies deliberately echoes the killing of the crew of a nineteenth-century ship, which turns the case into a piece of island legend as well as a police investigation. Vanessa Loren survives, and spends the next two years living with what she saw.
She is brought back when a filmmaker, Sean O'Hara, arrives to make a documentary about the pirate history of the region. Sean knows rather more about the supernatural than he initially lets on, and Vanessa begins to see a figure she cannot explain, along with objects from the wrecks that give the murders a context nobody wanted. As the two of them get closer to the story, it becomes clear that whoever did the killing has been waiting, and that the answer may lie with people who have been dead for a very long time.
