Friday Barnes, Under Suspicion
Friday Barnes is a genius girl detective who solves crimes at her exclusive boarding school, and this is the second case she takes on there.
About
Friday Barnes, Under Suspicion is a 2015 children's novel by R. A. Spratt and the second book in the Friday Barnes series. It continues the adventures of Friday, a boarding school girl who solves mysteries. An Australian edition was published by Random House Australia in 2015 and a United States edition by Roaring Brook Press in 2016 with illustrations by Phil Gosier.
The series is built on a school with enough money and enough secrets to generate cases, and Friday's method is deduction rather than action, which is why the books are described as detective stories for middle-grade readers. A review in Kirkus Reviews said that Spratt hits the right mix of dry humour and suspense, and Booklist praised the humour and the unusual mysteries.
The novel was also reviewed by School Library Journal and the Horn Book Guide Reviews, and it won an Australian award for children's crime fiction in 2016. It is the second of the sequence, following the introduction of the character, and the Australian and American editions appeared a year apart, which is common for children's series published in both markets.
