Eternity
Carrie Montgomery grew up with seven older brothers and is used to getting what she wants, and what she wants is the man in the photograph: a farmer who has advertised for a practical mail-order bride to keep house and help raise his children.
About
Eternity is a historical romance by the American writer Jude Deveraux, published in 1991 and part of her long-running series about the Montgomery and Taggart families.
Carrie Montgomery is the youngest of a family of brothers who have spent her life looking after her, and she has grown up expecting to be indulged. Joshua Greene is a farmer who advertised for a mail-order bride because he needed somebody practical to keep his house and help with his children, and what he receives instead is a young woman who married him by proxy after seeing his photograph and deciding that she was the wife for him. The novel follows the two of them as he tries to send her home and she sets about making herself necessary, on a farm where the work is real and the household has been running on grief. Deveraux writes the book as an American historical romance rather than a Regency one.
The Montgomery and Taggart books run through several generations of the same families, and this one carries the series into an American setting.
