Dreaming of You
Sara Fielding is a prim and proper gentlewoman who writes novels, and curiosity takes her out of her country cottage and into the London gambling world of Derek Craven, a man who rose from poverty to become the owner of the most exclusive gaming house in the city.
About
Dreaming of You is a historical romance by the American writer Lisa Kleypas, published in 1994. It is the second book in her Gamblers of Craven's series.
Sara Fielding is a well-bred gentlewoman and a writer who puts pen to paper to create dreams, and her curiosity leads her away from the shelter of her country cottage and into the world of Derek Craven, a gambler who has risen from poverty to become the wealthy owner of London's most exclusive gambling house and is described as handsome, tough and tenacious. For all his success, Craven keeps his life under strict control, and duty obliges him to allow Sara into it. She is determined to see the world she writes about at first hand rather than at a distance, and the two of them discover that the assumptions each has made about the other are wrong. The novel sets a heroine who has written about passion without experiencing it against a hero who has seen the worst of what people will do for money.
Craven rose from poverty to a position of wealth and authority inside London's gambling world, and the control he keeps over his own life is what the romance tests. Kleypas wrote a number of historical romances set in the same period, and this one belongs to a short series about Craven's gambling house.
