Dragons of Autumn Twilight
Five friends meet again after years apart and find that the world they left has changed: dragons have come back, the gods have withdrawn and the armies of a Highlord are taking the continent apart.
About
Dragons of Autumn Twilight is a fantasy novel by the American writers Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, published in 1984. It was the first Dragonlance novel and the first book of the Chronicles trilogy.
The book came out of a series of Dungeons & Dragons game modules, and it follows the Companions, a group of friends who have come back together after years apart: Tanis Half-Elven, the dwarf Flint Fireforge, the kender Tasslehoff Burrfoot, the brothers Caramon and Raistlin Majere and the cleric Goldmoon. The reunion they get is not a quiet one, because the War of the Lance is beginning and the roads are full of the Highlord's soldiers.
It corresponds to the first two Dragonlance modules, Dragons of Despair and Dragons of Flame, though the story it tells arrives somewhere the modules did not. The novel also introduces most of the characters that the later Dragonlance books and short stories went on to use, and it is generally treated, along with the Legends trilogy, as one of the central books of the setting.
