Doctor Sleep
Danny Torrance was the boy in the Overlook Hotel, and he has spent the years since living with what happened there.
About
Doctor Sleep is a horror novel by the American writer Stephen King, published in 2013. It is the sequel to his 1977 novel The Shining, and it won the Bram Stoker Award for Best Novel.
After the events at the Overlook Hotel, Danny Torrance and his mother Wendy live in Florida on the settlement the hotel's owners paid them. Danny remains psychologically traumatised and Wendy is still recovering from her injuries, and the angry ghosts of the Overlook, among them Mrs Massey, the woman from Room 217, still want to find Danny and consume the shining that he has. Dick Hallorann, the Overlook's former chef, teaches the boy to build mental lockboxes in which to keep the dead.
As an adult, Dan takes up his father's legacy of anger and alcoholism and spends years drifting across the United States. He eventually comes to New Hampshire and decides to give up drinking, settling in the small town of Frazier on what he calls a psychic hunch. He works first for the municipal department there and then at the local hospice, where the residents have given him a nickname he did not choose for himself. The novel was adapted into a film of the same name in 2019.
