Dead Reckoning
Sookie Stackhouse is at work at Merlotte's bar when it is firebombed, and because her employer Sam Merlotte is known to be two-natured, suspicion falls on the people who dislike shifters.
About
Dead Reckoning is a novel by the American writer Charlaine Harris, published in 2011. It is the eleventh book in her Southern Vampire Mysteries, and it deals with Sookie Stackhouse learning more about her own heritage while the supernatural politics around her get worse.
The book opens with Sookie at Merlotte's, the bar where she works, when it is firebombed. Sam Merlotte is by then known to be two-natured, so the attack is blamed on the local opponents of shifters, and Sookie does not believe that explanation.
Her attention is divided, because her lover Eric Northman and his vampire child Pam are plotting to kill the vampire who is currently their master. As Sookie is drawn into the plan she finds that it is more complicated than she has been told, and that she is as much a piece of property in vampire politics as any ordinary human. Old enemies, including Sandra Pelt, and visitors from the faery side of her family all arrive at the same time. The book reached the New York Times bestseller list, and it is one of a long run of novels about the same heroine.
