Dayan is the lead guitarist of the Dark Troubadors, and his playing stills crowds, beckons them and tempts them, but the call he keeps making is to the woman he is meant to be with.

About

Dark Melody is a paranormal romance novel by Christine Feehan, published in 2003. Dayan, one of its two central characters, is the lead guitarist of a band called the Dark Troubadors, and his performances are described as mesmerizing enough to still a crowd.

His music also works as a call. Dayan has been reaching out through his playing to the woman he calls his lifemate, asking her to come to him and to give back the emotions that have faded out of his existence and left him an empty shell of growing darkness.

The woman is Corrinne Wentworth, who is standing at the vortex of a gathering storm when the book reaches her. She is being pursued by the same fanatics who have been after her, so her position and his are connected rather than simply parallel.

The novel belongs to the long sequence of Carpathian romances in which a male who has lost the ability to feel recognises the one person who can return it to him. Dayan's difficulty is that the answer to his own survival is a woman with a pursuit of her own, and the book works out what happens when the two arrive in the same place.
