Savannah Dubrinsky is a mistress of illusion, a world-famous magician capable of mesmerizing millions, and there is one man who holds her in thrall: Gregori, the Dark One, whose cold silver eyes and heated sensuality send shivers of danger and desire down her spine.

About

Dark Magic is a paranormal romance novel by Christine Feehan, published in 2000. One of its two central characters, Savannah Dubrinsky, is a magician of international reputation whose particular gift is illusion.

The other is Gregori, called the Dark One, who is the implacable hunter, the legendary healer and the most powerful of the Carpathian males. He has been whispering into Savannah's mind that he is her destiny and that she was born to save his immortal soul.

The two of them converge on New Orleans, where the hour has come for him to claim her. The novel is built on the difference between the control Savannah has in front of an audience and the hold Gregori has on her when they are alone, and his magic is the older and heavier of the two.

The two of them have been circling each other since Savannah was young, and the book finally forces the question of whether the destiny Gregori keeps announcing is something she wants as well. Her fame gives her an audience and a life of her own, and the choice she faces is between the life she has built and the man who has been waiting inside her own mind.
