Ebun gives birth to her daughter Eniiyi on the same day the family buries her cousin Monife, and the baby's resemblance to the dead woman is impossible to miss.

About

Cursed Daughters is a novel by the Nigerian writer Oyinkan Braithwaite, published in 2025 by Atlantic Books.

The book centres on the Falodun family in Lagos, where a curse has been passed down: no man will call your house his home, and any who tries will have no peace. Three generations of women who have been left or abandoned live under one roof, and the household has learned to read its own history as fate. Eniiyi arrives on the day of a funeral and looks exactly like the cousin who died, which her relatives take as confirmation that the same end is waiting for her. As she grows up she falls in love with a boy she saves from drowning, and the novel follows her attempts to do something other than what her family's history and its spiritual advisers expect, including a search for help in parts of Lagos that her relatives would not approve of.

Braithwaite had published My Sister, the Serial Killer, and this novel keeps her interest in families with a great deal to hide while moving into the supernatural.
