Brida
A young Irish woman called Brida has been interested in magic for as long as she can remember, and what she is looking for now is something the books she has read cannot give her.
About
Brida is a novel by the Brazilian writer Paulo Coelho, first published in 1990. It tells the story of a young Irish woman and of the search for knowledge that takes over her life.
Brida has been interested in the various aspects of magic for years, and what she wants now is more than the books she has read have been able to give her. Her search takes her to people of great wisdom, who begin to teach her about the spiritual world and about what they have learned in it. The people she meets do not belong to a single tradition, and each of them gives her a different account of what the world is like.
One of her teachers is a wise man who lives in a forest and who teaches her about overcoming fear and about trusting in the goodness of the world. The other is a woman who shows her how to dance to the music of the world and how to pray to the moon, and the book follows Brida as she tries to bring her relationships and her wish to become a witch into the same life.
