Blue Adept

Blue Adept is a fantasy novel by the writer Piers Anthony, published in 1982. It is the second of the Apprentice Adept books and continues the story that began in Split Infinity, in a trilogy about the same character.

Stile exists in two versions of the same world. On Proton he is a serf, and the only way to establish his right to go on existing is to compete in the Great Games. On Phaze, where magic is the only power that works, he is the Blue Adept, learning what sorcery can do for him.

In both places someone wants him dead, which means that whichever world he is standing in he is also watching his back. He has other obligations as well: Lady Blue has to be won, a dragon has to be fought, and the Citizen who has been trying to have him killed has to be found. The Games belong to Proton and the sorcery belongs to Phaze, and Stile has to be able to live inside the rules of both at once.
