About

Bloodsucking Fiends: A Love Story is a novel by Christopher Moore, published in 1995. It combines the supernatural with the romance novel and with a good deal of humour.

Jody is a young single woman living in San Francisco who wakes up in a dumpster after being mugged and works out that she has been turned into a vampire. Her clothes are torn, her arm is badly burned and her sense of smell is suddenly as sharp as an animal's. She has nobody to explain the situation to her, which is where she spends most of the book.

She has to adjust to a nocturnal existence, and what helps her through it is Tommy Flood, a would-be writer who has recently moved to the city and takes a job in a supermarket. The two of them become involved, which is the love story of the title.

The novel is the first volume of a trilogy, followed by You Suck and Bite Me, and it keeps its horror material on the comic side throughout.
