Blackwood Farm
Tarquin Blackwood, heir to a powerful old family in New Orleans, has been haunted all his life by a spirit called Goblin.
About
Blackwood Farm is a 2002 vampire novel by the American writer Anne Rice and the ninth book in The Vampire Chronicles. It includes characters who cross over from Rice's Lives of the Mayfair Witches trilogy, published between 1990 and 1994, and continues the unified story begun in Merrick in 2000.
The main narrator is Quinn Blackwood, heir to an old Louisiana family, who has been troubled by a companion spirit called Goblin since he was a child. He was made a vampire in his youth, by Petronia, and he approaches Lestat looking for a way to be rid of Goblin, who has grown more dangerous. His recollections of his family and of his own transformation are the substance of the novel. The house is as much the subject as the haunting is: a Southern mansion among dark cypress swamps in Louisiana, holding the family's blood-stained secrets and the ghosts that come with them.
The setting is a Southern mansion among cypress swamps. Rice's later volumes in this series connect the vampire and witch material into a single family history, and this is one of the books where those strands meet.
