Beyond Reach
Sara Linton, a paediatrician and medical examiner, is being sued by the parents of a patient who died, and the town she has served for sixteen years is lining up against her.
About
Beyond Reach is a novel by the American writer Karin Slaughter, published in 2007 and the sixth of her Grant County books.
Sara's professional life is coming apart through a malpractice suit that has less to do with the death of a child than with the people who see an opportunity in it, and the clinic she has kept solvent is at the centre of the damage. Jeffrey's problem is his detective Lena Adams, who has been arrested in connection with a murder, and the case takes the couple south towards a town built on a business nobody discusses. The book is written from Sara's point of view and moves between the courthouse, the clinic and the drive into a county where a missing person and a dead man turn out to be the same investigation. Slaughter writes the forensic detail and the marital strain at the same temperature, and this is the volume in which the series changes direction.
It was published in some markets under the title Skin Privilege.
