ArchEnemy
The Heart Crystal has been depleted, and imagination has gone with it.
About
ArchEnemy is a science fiction and fantasy novel by Frank Beddor, published on 15 October 2009, and the third book of The Looking Glass Wars trilogy.
The Heart Crystal, the source of imagination in Wonderland, has been drained, and the consequences are felt everywhere: the people of the realm have lost their creative drive, and Queen Alyss herself is without her powers. There is one small consolation in the situation, which is that the vicious Redd Heart appears to be similarly disabled, and she is now proposing an alliance with the queen she has spent years trying to destroy, in order to retake Wonderland from King Arch. Alyss may have no choice but to accept the offer, particularly as the caterpillar oracles begin giving her advice she does not like. The novel ties up the trilogy's argument about imagination as a resource that can be used, hoarded or exhausted, and the fate of the realm depends on who is willing to share it.
Beddor wrote the series as an adventure for younger readers that treats creativity as a physical substance with a politics attached to it.
