About
A Crown Imperilled is a fantasy novel by the American writer Raymond E. Feist, published in 2012. It is the second book of The Chaoswar Saga, the last of the sagas in his Riftwar Cycle.
The Empire of Great Kesh has risen in battle against the western lands of the Kingdom of the Isles on Midkemia while palace coups are attempted in Roldem and Rillanon, Jim Dasher's intelligence network is dismantled and minor noblemen threaten the thrones of the west. Pug, with the Conclave of Shadows and his son Magnus, does not accept that these events are separate, and the two of them work to unravel the plot behind them.
What they find takes them to an island civilisation of Pantathian serpent men whose culture and social structure are far more refined than those of any Pantathians the west has encountered, and to an energy matrix that Pug and Magnus are certain has to be deciphered. Hal, now Duke of Crydee after the death of his father and not aware of it at first, is meanwhile given the task of protecting Princess Stephané of Roldem, with his friend and rival Ty Hawkins and her bodyguard Gabriella, as they flee a coup attempt.
