Black Myth: Wukong: Transformations, Spirits and Vessels

Four tools, four resource rules
Transformations, Spirits, Vessels and spells occupy different parts of a loadout. Their meters are not interchangeable; the table uses Immobilize as the early spell example.
| Tool | What happens when used | What limits it |
|---|---|---|
| Transformation | You enter a controllable form with its own moveset and health bar | Might falls over time and through attacks; losing transformed health or Might returns you to the Destined One |
| Spirit | You briefly take a yaoguai’s form to perform its Spirit Skill | The skill consumes Qi; combat or resting at a shrine restores Qi |
| Vessel | You trigger an active effect while keeping its equipped passive effect | The active consumes Qi and must be recharged |
| Immobilize (spell) | You hold an enemy in place for a short opening | This cast consumes Mana and starts Immobilize’s cooldown |
A full transformation can absorb damage without reducing your original health. It can extend a difficult attempt, but it still ends when its health or Might runs out. Spirit Skills are shorter actions: their availability is controlled by Qi, not by a time-only cooldown.
Read both halves of a Spirit or Vessel
An equipped Spirit supplies a passive effect even when its active skill is not ready. The early Wandering Wight Spirit, for example, raises Defense while equipped and spends a high amount of Qi to deliver its heavy head strike. Cultivating a Spirit at a shrine can strengthen it and reduce its Qi cost.
Vessels also have active and passive effects. Fireproof Mantle passively raises Burn Resistance and prevents Scorch damage from lava-covered terrain. Its active grants temporary Burn immunity and increasing Focus. That makes it valuable beyond one scripted boss attack, although fire-heavy encounters give it the clearest purpose.
Build the first complete loadout
Chapter 1 introduces these systems through separate rewards:
- Red Tides transformation: defeat Guangzhi in Forest of Wolves and take his weapon.
- Wandering Wight Spirit: defeat Wandering Wight before fighting Elder Jinchi, because Wandering Wight disappears after that secret-temple boss. Absorb the Spirit after the Blessed Gourd has been upgraded; if you won the fight before gaining that ability, retrieve the Spirit at a shrine afterward.
- Fireproof Mantle Vessel: ring all three bells, defeat Elder Jinchi in Ancient Guanyin Temple, then collect the Mantle from the hanging wolf by the third bell.
Choose between them by resource and purpose. Use Red Tides when a separate moveset and health bar help, spend Qi on Wandering Wight for one committed strike, and equip Fireproof Mantle when its passive or temporary immunity answers the arena. Getting Started gives the Chapter 1 order, while Sparks & Stances explains how to reset their talent points.
